In Uganda, community health workers (VHTs) act as the first point of contact in community and source of health information, they are trusted and well connected and best placed to demystify the myths and perceptions relating to COVID19. The executive Director Faith Discipleship Ministries International (FAMI). During his Zoom meeting with the Youth of All Saints Cathedral – Bulamagi Sub-County. He has informed the Youth that they will be facilitated to conduct community based surveillance, case management and awareness creation on the prevention and protection of Covid19.
He said that the organization will access accurate and trustworthy recorded messages on prevention and protection of COVID19 from health department from the district which will be wired on hired Boda-bodas motorcycles to be used during the exercise.
As the majority of the Youth has Boda –bodas, will be facilitated to ride through the rural villages and trading centres with megaphones mounted on their motorcycles broadcasting appropriate, accurate and trustworthy messages regarding COVID19 prevention and protection. This will serve as an income generating activity for the youth who would have been hired for this exercise. This will help them avoid redundancy during this current lock down imposed to curb spread of COVID19.
FAMI will work hand in hand with Central Busoga Diocese during radio talk show. The project will also conduct radio talk shows on prevention and protection of COVID19 and this will be done by technical guidance of Government health workers and youth representatives on local FM stations.
